The Salvation Army Celebrates Holy Week with Events Throughout the Week!
The Salvation Army invites the community to join them in the following events to celebrate Holy Week:
A Seder Meal on Monday, April 14, at 6:30 PM at The Salvation Army’s 614 Corps on McCallie Avenue. The Seder Meal is an interactive evening that tells the story of God and His people. A tradition among Jewish people as a part of the Passover Celebration, it is also meaningful to Christians as a way to consider the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Please click here to RSVP. There will be a $10.00 charge at the door to cover the cost of food.
An Easter Vacation Bible School– “Calling All Heroes” will take place Monday – Friday, April 14 – 18, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM for children ages 6 – 12 at The East Lake Corps located at 2140 East 28th Street. A free lunch will be provided. A graduation service will take place on Saturday, April 19, at 1:00 PM. For more information, please call 423-698-4484.
On Good Friday, April 18, The Salvation Army will partner with The Dynamic Church, which is hosting a community wide Easter Festival called “Hunt to Can Hunger” located at the Hamilton Place YMCA. Their goal is to raise 2,000 pounds of food for The Salvation Army’s Food Pantry. There will be photos with the Easter Bunny and an Easter Egg hunt featuring 12,000 eggs with food, games and fun for all ages. The Festival begins at 4:30 PM. For more information, click here.
Also on Friday, April 18, at 7:00 PM, The Salvation Army on McCallie Avenue will host a “Tenebrae” Service, meaning “darkness or shadows” in Latin. This is an ancient Good Friday service that reflects on the events surrounding the last week of Jesus’ life and His death.
Other Good Friday Services will take place on Friday, April 18, at The Salvation Army East Lake Corps located at 2140 East 28th Street at 6:00 PM. All are welcome to these worship services.
The Annual Home League Yard Sale will take place at the Citadel Corps located at 1019 N. Moore Road on Saturday, April 19 from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The East Lake Corps will host their Vacation Bible School Graduation and Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 PM. The Citadel Corps will also host a Spring Carnival, Saturday, April 19, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. There will be food, an Easter Egg Hunt and fun for all ages. For more information, please call 423-499-0216.
The Cleveland Salvation Army will host its Easter Sunrise Service at Mt. Olive Cemetery of Cleveland and will begin at 7:30 AM. Sergeant Ruthie Forgey will be leading the service. All are welcome to attend.
The Chattanooga Salvation Army will celebrate Easter with its traditional Easter Sunrise Service at the National Cemetery at 1200 Bailey Avenue at the flag pole overlooking beautiful downtown Chattanooga! For more than 35 years, The Salvation Army has partnered with the National Cemetery for the Easter Sunrise Service. All are invited to worship at 7:02 AM as the sun rises over Chattanooga.
