The Salvation Army ReCreate Café Shines a Light on Human Trafficking with the “For Freedom Tour” Headlined by Jenny & Tyler
As the Artistic Director for The Salvation Army 614 Corps’ ReCreate Café, I have the great privilege to plan events focused on topics I’m passionate about and bring in artists that I love! This Saturday March 29, 2014, I will get to do both as we host the For Freedom Tour at 8 pm featuring one of my favorite groups the acoustic, folk-pop duo Jenny & Tyler. Levi Weaver & special guest Vanita Joines are adding their talent to the evening as well.
The evening also highlights local human-trafficking awareness efforts by Second Life of Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Coalition Against Human Trafficking (CCAHT) of which The Salvation Army of Chattanooga is an active member. The next CCAHT meeting is Thursday, April 3 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at Development Resource Center at 1250 Market Street in Chattanooga. The Salvation Army provides lunch at these bi-monthly meetings. We also host the bi-monthly Awareness Committee meetings at ReCreate Cafe. The next meeting is Friday May 2 at Noon-1:00 pm.
The stop at ReCreate Café is part of a 30 city tour across the USA and is in support of the latest project from Jenny & Tyler, For Freedom – A Covers EP, which consists of songs from U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Simon & Garfunkel, Coldplay, The Cranberries, Postal Service and Louis Armstrong. Sales from the EP project go to the International Justice Mission, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending human-trafficking throughout the world.
The concert will include original songs by Jenny & Tyler as well. They are one of those rare acoustic folk-pop duos who can captivate the audience with their energy and passion while integrating a personable spirit that makes a concert feel more like a living room jam session. They effortlessly share their life and stories through their songs
Here’s what Jenny & Tyler had to say about the project, “After five original albums, we thought it time to try something different. Long have we had desires and interests to put our own spin on some of our favorite songs from our childhood, songs that have influenced the way we think about music today. This project, For Freedom – A Covers EP, is the consummation of those interests and desires.” (www.jennyandtyler.com)
