The Chattanooga Salvation Army School of Music and Arts (SOMA) was founded in 2001 to serve low income students in the Brainerd community. SOMA serves public, private and home school students throughout the Chattanooga Area. Trained and experienced instructors teach selected music and art skills and provide activities, resources and incentives that motivate each young person to achieve success now and in the future. Learning to play music instills self-discipline, builds self-esteem, increases self-confidence and encourages leadership.
Instruction takes place each Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM beginning on August 20th. Students take a major class depending on school grade and select two of four elective classes. The major class for Grades 3-5 is General Music Introduction and Recorder. The Grade 6-12 major class is Brass Band. Elective classes include Guitar, Percussion, Piano and Art. Art classes cover a wide range and variety of media.
The sixteen week semester costs $50 per student. To sponsor a child or to register, visit http://www.csarmy.org. For more information contact Kimberly George at 423-756-1023 or Kimberly_George@uss.salvationarmy.org.
