The Salvation Army’s School of Music and Arts Registration Begins Tomorrow
Music enriches our lives. Learning to play music instills self-discipline, builds self-esteem, increases self-confidence and encourages leadership. One of the exciting ministries of The Salvation Army in Chattanooga is the School of Music and Arts (SOMA). SOMA is changing young lives at the Citadel Corps Community Center on North Moore Road. Trained and experienced instructors teach music and art skills through class instruction, activities, and incentives that motivate each student to achieve success now and in the future. Founded in 2001 to serve low-income students in the Brainerd community, SOMA now serves public, private and home school students throughout the Chattanooga area.
The School of Music & Arts offers class instruction to third through twelfth graders each Tuesday evening during two semesters that correspond to the school year. Depending on school grade students take a major class, select two of four elective classes and participate in a Christian devotional. The major class for grades 3-5 is General Music Introduction and recorder. Students in grades 6-12 are enrolled in Brass Band as their major class. Elective classes include guitar, percussion, piano, and art. Art classes cover a variety of media and art history.
The School of Music & Arts Program starts August 14 and goes through December 11. SOMA is every Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the Citadel Corps. Registration is $50 per semester or $80 for the whole year.
